Dr. Grote grew up in Pennsylvania and attended college and medical school in upstate New York. He developed an interest in medicine from an early age out of his fascination for how the body functions and a desire to work with people and contribute to their lives in a meaningful way. He completed his family medicine residency in Seattle at the University of Washington.
While in medical school Dr. Grote spent 2 months working as part of a medical team providing care in a rural African village. In residency training he spent elective time working in a remote Thai hospital. These experiences helped to broaden his perspective on medicine by witnessing cultures outside the western world and their approach to illness and also emphasized the importance of healthcare as a community issue.
After completing his residency in family medicine at the University of Washington, Dr. Grote supplemented his training with the study of nutrition, herbal medicine and homeopathy. His personal practice of yoga and meditation led him to further explore the field of mind/body medicine.
He began his practice in a clinic where he worked for five years alongside naturopaths, acupuncturists, massage therapists, and psychotherapists - an environment which supported an exchange of knowledge and ideas among practitioners of diverse disciplines.
Dr. Grote now practices at Fremont Family Practice alongside Drs. David Harvey, Reena Koshy, and Eric Rose, family physicians, and nurse practitioner, Elizabeth Bayley. He continues to provide general primary care for people of all ages.
Outside his work Dr. Grote enjoys time with his wife and their three children. He maintains balance in his own life by enjoying good food, a love of the outdoors, learning the mandolin, and indulging in a healthy portion of daily laughter!
