Dr. Grote grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from Union College and Albany Medical School in New York. He developed an interest in medicine from an early age out of his fascination for how the body functions and a desire to work with people and contribute to their lives in a meaningful way. He completed his family medicine residency in Seattle at the University of Washington where he remains on faculty for his teaching of medical students.

After completing his residency in family medicine at the University of Washington, Dr. Grote supplemented his medical knowledge with the study of nutrition, herbal medicine, and other approaches to understand where they best fit into an integrative approach to primary care.

Dr. Grote opened his practice in 1995 and since 2007 has been in practice alongside Dr. David Harvey at Fremont Family Practice. He appreciates the role of a family physician in being able to provide care for both children and adults and is equipped to help people manage all aspects of their health - from acute/urgent issues to chronic medical problems as well as being able to focus on health and preventive care.

Outside his work Dr. Grote enjoys time with his wife and their three children. He maintains balance in his own life by enjoying good food, music, a love of the outdoors, learning the mandolin, and indulging in a healthy dose of daily laughter!
